Angry Can't generate system health report + problem device in Hardware & Devices
Hello,

I have two problems I need assistance with.

FIRST PROBLEM

1) I suddenly can't seem to generate a system health report with Vista. I
keep getting "an error occured while attempting to generate the report".
Before it worked now it does not. I always do a system health report almost
everyday. (I'm obsessed about the well being of my PC). I don't know what
triggered it, but here are some possible reasons I can think of:

A) I recently uninstalled my Mcafee trial software and then installed CA
Internet Security. I then received a series of Blue Screens. I quickly
uninstalled CA Internet Security and used Zone Alarm Free Firewall and AVG
antivirus. The operating system seems to be stable now (I haven't got a Blue
Screen since).

B) On July 25, 2007, I installed a recent update to Windows Vista. The
update is KB929547. (http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=929547).
Could this have something to do with it?

Some things I did to attempt fixing this problem myself include doing a
start up repair (using the F8 key before Windows loads). No problems found. I
did a Windows Memory test while I was there in the boot options. No problems
detected. I checked the hard drive for errors. No bad files and only a few
reparsed records.

The problem still exists.

SECOND PROBLEM

2) I was doing some snooping in the "System Information" section. Under
"Components" and then "Problem Devices", there appears this:

Device: 6TO4
PNP Device ID: ROOT\*6TO4MP\0000
Error Code: This device cannot start.

The first thing I'd try is just doing a System Restore to a date when you know it worked. Run rstrui.exe

You can also test the issue in Safe Mode.

If not possible, look in the Event Viewer (run evenvtvwr.msc and see if you can get any further information there.

I have no idea what that device is -- if you look in the Device Manager, do you see anything flagged there? Run devmgmt.msc

Hi Rollin Rog,

First, some findings:

1) This 6TO4 is a network adapter. In the Microsoft Manag. Cons > Network Adapters I see two devices. The 6T04 and "Marvell Yukon 88E8039 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.

The Marvell... popped up under my Zone Alarm Firewall when I plugged in the ethernet cable for the internet at the back of my PC. I had to turn the internet off temporarily.

2) I checked out the Event Viewer and I think I found the causes of the Blue Screen. There were dozens of these over the span of 5-10 minutes during PC usage at around the time the BSoD appeared:

A)

and this too appears

I tried doing a System Restore back to the point right before installing CA Internet Security. I still can't generate a system health report.

I also tried generating it in safe mode directly from the System32 folder, but the PerformanceMon.exe won't run in safe mode. ( also tried to run it via the Welcome Center ->Performance method but the Welcome Center won't even pop up.

I would disable the 6T04 through the Device Manager and see if that eliminates any error messages concerning it.

What PCI cards are installed?

I don't know what device this is referring to:

device in PCI slot 9

You could try entering the BIOS/CMOS setup and reload the defaults, or remove the CMOS battery for a couple of minutes to reset it.

Otherwise you might try removing all the PCI cards except the Display card if one is used -- reboot -- then reinstall them one at a time, rebooting once or twice after each install.

Hopefully that will get the IRQs sorted out.

I'm afraid I can't find anything on

By the way, will chkdsk run and produce a report?

The report is available in the Event Viewer > Applications > Wininit after completion and rebooting.
