Angry Cannot play music CDs or DVDs after Vista Upgrade
I upgraded to Vista Business Edition from XP Pro a couple of months ago. I think its great and haven't had any major problems.......till now!

I went to import a new CD into iTunes and it appeared to do it in about 5 seconds. When I played the imported songs, there was nothing. In iTunes, I clicked on the CD and tried playing directly off the CD and it just skips straight on to the next song.

Suspecting iTunes, I tried Windows Media Player and the same thing. I tried a different CD and the same happened. I tried a video DVD and WMP will not play it either.

I have an Acer Aspire 1683 WLMi with an upgraded hard drive (120GB) and upgraded RAM (1.5GB). I never had this issue under XP.

I've checked for software updates for the DVDRW driver and it is using the latest. I've removed and reinstalled the drive and still the same.

Anyone any ideas?

Looks like my Ghost image of XP Pro was a good investment then. Microsoft have no answer either.

Sounds like a hardware problem with the CD/DVD drive, in that the CD audio function has failed.

except, that's not true because if you read my original post, you will see that real player still functions! Hmmm....

Could be a iTune issue and NOT a Vista issue!

Except (once again), it's not restricted to iTunes and not to music CDs.

Please read original post.

P.S. I've also performed this "fix" to no avail: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461

Oh...and now (after upgrading the version of Flash Player), Flash movies no longer work in Internet Explorer. For the record, I've installed Safari and Netscape and Flash Player works fine in them.

iTunes may have installed a driver that is NOT valid in Vista, so other programs and file formats may not work.

Uninstalled iTunes, didn't work. Same problem.

The Flash issue seems to be seperate as a number of other people would appear to be experiencing it.

just go ahead and check the settings of itunes, just right click on the itunes option and then click on properties and check that there is no check on read option and if it has just unchecked the read option and if still doesnt worked out then there i some problem with Vista but not with the itunes files as per my Dell Technician experience its a Vista issue..........
