Red face Vista at home, Office at work....?
Hi folks

I occasionally work from home and the problem is that whilst my home PC has Windows Vista Home Premium, my employer uses older software (Office 2003).

I have not had a problem until now, as my PC came with a free 90-day home trial of Microsoft Office - yippee!

Thing is, my 90 days has expired and I am now being asked to pay to buy the full licence (approx £100?). Am I right then in assuming that even though I have the latest system i.e. Vista, I have to pay an additional cost if I am to edit documents I have sent from work?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am new to home computing!

For full compatibility yes, otherwise you might like to try the excellent free Openoffice which is Office compatible but not always 100%. Do a search on Google to download it or try here.

Vista is an operating system, and Office is a productivity suite. Two different things.

If you're asking about editing Office-type documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the answer depends on what version is in use at work and how complex the documents are. OpenOffice may work, but advanced features or editing may not. You also would need to make sure you save the files as Microsoft Office types to avoid problems back at work.
