Help! Vista killed my wireless access
I am sincerely hoping someone has an idea on how to fix this problem:

My new laptop came with Windows Home Basic installed. After it crashed multiple times a day, I switched to XP Pro. As it turns out, my laptop was not built to support XP (there are no drivers available for sound or the expandable drive). So now I've installed Vista Ultimate, 32bit.

My wireless connection was fully functional under both XP and Vista Home Basic. But for some reason, I cannot connect to any wireless networks, secured or unsecured, using Vista Ultimate. And a hard-line connection works fine.

I can recognize networks and attempt to connect to them, but I immediately receive a notice that "This computer cannot connect to wireless networks".

I uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless card and it appears the card is functioning normally. I've changed virtually all the settings on my D-Link wireless router, but that isn't the issue since I cannot connect to any networks. I've also removed Norton and turned off the windows firewall, so there aren't any firewalls impeding access. Finally, I switched all of the networking and wireless services from Manual to Automatic. Oh - and I of course have made sure the wireless feature is turned on!

In sum, I've spent about 5 hours on the phone with Toshiba and D-Link; the result of which was a promise from Toshiba to "work on the problem and call me back".

Are there any ideas??? Could something have happened during the transfer from XP to Vista Ultimate?? It just doesn't make sense that it worked fine under Vista Home Basic but not with Ultimate. Has anyone heard of a similar problem?

Thanks very much for any comments. Relevant details:

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite U305-S5107
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate, 32bit
Wireless Card: Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN

You need to go to the Toshiba web site and down load the Vista drivers for the Toshiba Satellite U305-S5107 that are NOT on the Microsoft Vista DVD.

Toshiba and MOST other OEM's do NOT provide MS with their drivers for ALL of their machines.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

The only WiFi drivers available on the Toshiba support page are for WiFi cards. And whats more, none match my existing Intel card. Below are the available WiFi drivers....am I missing something?

-Realtek Wireless LAN Driver (802.11b/g) for Windows Vista (v6.1082.504.2007 r2; 06-05-2007; 3.29M)

- Intel PROSet Utility (802.11a/b/g/n,a/b/g,b/g PCIe Mini Card) (v11.1.0.0.2; 05-17-2007; 28.5M)

- Atheros Mini PCI/PCIe Wireless Lan (802.11 a/b/g, b/g) Driver for Windows Vista (v7.2.0.164; 05-17-2007; 5.42M)

-Intel 802.11a/b/g/n, a/b/g, b/g PCIe Mini Card driver for Windows Vista (v11.1.0.86 Logo; 05-17-2007; 5.78M)

Thanks

I have also had trouble with Vista and my wireless netgear. It will work and then it stops, the netgear is vista compatable. This is a ongoing problem for me as well. Maybe someone can help.
