RE: How do I uninstall Vista
all you need to do is throw the OS disk of whatever version you plan on installing, into the drive. you can format your partition & install right over the top of it.

Unhappy How do I uninstall Vista
I also want to totally remove Vista (OEM) from a new laptop and install XP (sp2) in its place. I have tried booting from the XP CD - no go! (Searches for files then stops) Have tried formatting C:/ - no go!
Someone must know how to "destroy" Vista ..... PLEASE HELP!
NOTE: I do NOT have a dual boot laptop..... It is as I bought it with a C:/ drive and a D:/recover drive (160Gb)

You shouldn't install XP on your PC unless you have all the XP drivers for your particular PC. Otherwise, the screen will look funny, sound wont work, and modem, wireless, USB will all probably be dead. In short, you'll have a useless PC.

yah, i've come to find that you need 3rd party Sata drivers if you have a Sata HDD, otherwise XP won't even see the hard drive. then you have to go around to all the manufacturer's websites & download their drivers to make your hardware work properly. it turns in to a huge pain in the a$$. if you want XP on a computer, you're better off having someone build you one from scratch, then install it yourself, rather then buy a computer with Vista on it, then try to get rid of it.

If you already have all the Windows XP drivers, what's the holdup? Put the XP CD in and boot.

I didn't realize you hijacked onto someone else's thread. I was addressing the original post.
