Question DVD drive quit working.
I just got a new laptop and the drive quit working. this happened on a previous laptop but i returned it to get this one. the other was an Everex and the new one is an acer.
since it happened a second time i decided to figure out why. in the satus box it says "this device can not start (code 10)". the name of the drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device. i tried the ceck for soltions button and a box pops up for a few seconds and then disapears.

Have you installed an CD/DVD burning software, if so, what?

While it usually doesn't resolve Code 10 issues, try the solution detailed in this link - http://support.packardbell.com/uk/it...ppn=PB42B00901 - NOTE- It's exactly the same in Vista as XP.

Have you tried uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and rebooting?

If this happened a second time on a second machine, it begins to sound like something that you yourself are doing, possibly some software that you are installing.

What burning software and virtual drive software do you have?
