How much Ram use is normal for Vista? Basically even sitting at the desktop im seeing 50% of physicall memory usage.

the system has 1gig in it right now, with no open slots.

Do NOT spend much time is trying to keep track of Vista uses of memory.
Is is used differently that in earlier version. Yes, it appears the be a hog, but will release any that is needed when needed.

My physical memory is most of the time at 46%

vista uses a lot of memory by a process called superfetch. it is an update on windows xp's prefetch.this link will explain better than i can.

It does depend upon what you have running in the background. On my 2 gig system with MSN, IRC, Nod32, Logitech Setpoint in the System Tray and a browser (this one), I'm usually seeing 40-45% in use.
