Been running Vista since for about a year, 32bit and 64 bit without any worries... except an old kworld tv tuner card that didn't really work in XP either...

I have a new Gateway with Vista Home Premium and it's running fine. I have 1024 MB of ram and dual core processors (each core runs at 1.6 GHz) with a 320 GB SATAII hard drive. I even managed to load my old Bejeweled/Alchemy game after getting the patch from the manufacturer. The file system graphics are really cool, but I'm willing to bet that most people who aren't have equipment problems are just uncomfortable with the new design. It's totally different looking from any older windows system and definitely takes getting used to. I spent several hours the first day fooling around with it, and am now as comfortable with it as I was with XP.

I bought a new machine with Vista installed. Apart from the odd hiccup, I couldn't be happier.

Installing 2 gb of RAM is a good move, as this is an OS that's quite memory hungry. I had 4 gb installed and Vista Ultimate sings along sweetly on that.

IFWIW. I was using computers even before floppy's (Apple and BBC?) I do not see any outstanding advantages in using Vista, over those of XP, but if you are repurchasing then it is the way to go. I worked through the Vista Beta program and, since RC2, have been using Vista as my main OS. With the release of the retail version, I have now dumped XP as my standby entirely. Admittedly I have learned a few compatibility tricks but I have all of my old XP software running on Vista (39 reasonably major programs) and a very old Laser (HP 1200)
Since the RC2, other than my own blunders, I have had no BSOD's or other problems.
You don't state your knowledge of computers but if you do plan, as suggested in some of these postings, to install XP after you have purchased, you would be well advised to read up on it first. There are a couple of small boot manager difficulties which need to be taken care of. There is quite a lot of info on the web as to how to deal with it, including a "sticky" in this forum.

For Rich-m If you like Windows Mail, I recommend Windows Live Mail, which is even better.

I have been using it since December...I use it for my DVR box and as my main PC. There are advantages and disadvantages for Vista. Plus, it is the only DirectX 10 compatible OS, if you are a serious gamer. If you want the most out of it, including gaming, then go for Vista Ultimate and download the Dreamscapes add-on from Microsoft. Enjoy.

Patience. This can be said about Linux too! Funny how no one says that though.

Daily updates? Yes, right on track. Make the user wait twenty minutes everyday before they can use our computer.

Actually, I really like Vista.
HP and Dell are now, or are considering, selling computers with Linux pre-installed.

I have a new hp laptop with Vista home premium pre-installed. At first i did not care for it but like anything new it takes getting used to. I have had no problems with Vista and have become familiar with it,and i really enjoy it. Tis a far cry from commodore 64 and dos string lines . but having an HP they pre install a lot of junk which i promptly got rid of

Vista is fine as long as you never want to upgrade it. The Anytime Upgrade does not work. Period.

Courtney sends....

(set your computer to update when You are sleeping, automatic updates ) By the way it only takes me a couple of seconds to update not twenty minutes. I am not running a dinosaur, nor am I using a or the Charlie Brown OS, .

By the way Courtney..Automatic update and upgrades work fine on my computer. I am happy to hear that you like Vista. I hope you get your Upgrade issue worked out.

Ive had no problems either. Just make sure your rig has plenty of ram and a decent video card to go with it. After doing a simple upgrade vista should run smoother than xp on an equivalent pc. When buying hardware such as a router or wireless card, you might want to ditch your used ones and buy new ones preferrably with vista compatability.

Dell does, HP denies they ever considered the thought... current standings at least.

You save no money by getting the Linux system with Dell though.

I have run Vista on my home PC since Febuary and have been perfectly happy. My experience with it has been good. NIVIDIA have recently updated their graphic drivers, but to be honest I didn't really have any issues anyway. I run Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator with no problem. Before Vista I used Windows 98 on my old home PC on which I now intend to load Ubuntu.

At work we still run XP on PCs, but Vista is in the pipeline.
