Exclamation converting back to windows xp from vista


ok i have a gateway mp6954 and it came with xp on it and i just bought it from a friend so i deleted all the info on it and so when i tried to reinstall xp it said that it cannot find my hard disk drive and im guessing its my controller or something but i really want my xp back so if there is anything i could do then please let me know that would be a great help... and i would like to add that i dont think i know anyone that likes vista...including me
