Unhappy Vista Running Ve-e-e-ry Slo-o-o-wly
I just installed Zone Alarm Security Suite. My system slowed to a crawl. There are no other antivirus or firewall software running. Norton's security suite came bundled with the computer. I removed it using the Control Panel. Windows Firewall is disabled. Task Manager indicates that most of the cpu time is used by Scanning Process.exe. Cpu usage stays a 100% most of the time. I have been satisfied with Vista's performance up to now.

Try removing or disabling Zone alarm, if the problem clears you'll know it is a problem with Zone Alarm.

Does Zone Alarm security suite include a virus scanner? It sounds like it's doing the initial system scan.

Ah, ha! Norton (Symantec) programs leave a ton of junk behind that can actually inhibit the operation of its replacement program. Try using the Removal tool to clean up the junk:

Hey goldust: Thanks for the info. I did the download, but I'm not the Amin so it won't run. This PC is my own personal computer and I am the only one who has access. How do I establish Admin power?

OK. Had same problem and it took a while to get back to you because I couldn't remember where the program compatibility wizard was. Go to Control Panel> make sure you are in Control Panel home and NOT classic view>Programs>Under Programs and Features click on "Use an older program with this version of windows" When Wizard comes up: click next>check off "I want to locate program manually">browse for the program you want to run and click next>check "do not apply compatibility mode>click next >click next again. Now check "Run this program as an administrator" and continue to end of wizard without checking anything else (leave any default you come across (I don't want to continue on my computer because I'd have to reinstall something). I don't believe there was anything else however and you just come to end of wizard. After this you'll notice an option to "Run As Administrator" in a number of drop down menus in different programs.
