Solved: Radeon X1650
I have a Radeon X1650 video card in a Vista Home Premium pre-loaded system and I want to update the drivers from ver 7.01.01.646 to the latest ones being ver 8.401.0.014. I believe I have to uninstall the old ones first, then install the newer one and therein is the problem. I have hunted high and low and can't find an add / remove item for this. Anyone have ideas where I have to look? Did I tell you I miss XP sometimes?

What does ATI say about manual removal? Did you look in Control Panel, Programs and Features?

I did look there and nothing exists for ATI or Radeon etc.

I followed Radeons inst. and it took me to the same place you suggested. THAT'S WHERE IT IS IN A NORMAL SYSTEM BUT NOT MINE!

I have searched all folders and included hidden files etc. and still nothing. This is an ACER system with a pre-loaded ver of Vista so who knows what they did with it.

I can right click on my desktop and get into the driver details from there. It does give me the option to update or roll back the driver but I'm thinking that isn't the way it should be done because what I downloaded from Radeon is the entire set of software not just the driver.

I would uninstall your old driver before you download a new driver.

Well I'm aware of that and I was crossing my fingers that someone would know where I have to look in order to uninstall all of ATI's software so I can install the new suite. If I did that then the driver would disappear as well. I'm starting to think there is no ATI software and just the drive has been installed.

It may be one of those situations where it is not installed correctly and you have to install it again to uninstall it from Programs and Features.

I came to the conclusion that Acer only installed the driver and didn't install any ATI software.
I accessed the driver via the old right click on the desktop trick.. display settings... advanced and removed it from there. Then I installed ATI's entire program including the new driver and all is well.

I've always built my own systems and did the O/S install but when I needed a new computer I needed it quick like a bunny and didn't have the time. Sure taught me a lesson I wouldn't soon forget.
