Blue Screen of Death
Hi, I'm using Windows Vista on a Sony Vaio laptop.

I've been getting what seemingly are random crashes which result in the dreaded blue screen of death. Here's the stop code:

0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80157000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Of course, I have no idea what it means so any help please?

Most likley a hardware fault.

Explained in full here, you have a "double fault"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137539

"A double fault occurs when an exception occurs while trying to call the handler for a prior exception. Normally, the two exceptions can be handled serially, however there are several exceptions that cannot be handled serially and in this situation the processor signals a double fault. The two primary causes for this are hardware and kernel stack overflows. Hardware problems are usually related to CPU, RAM, or bus. Kernel stack overflows are almost always caused by faulty kernel-mode drivers. "

Thanks.

But is it possible to determine which part is causing the problem from the parameters in the stop code or is checking each part necessary?

Hope I don't seem too dumb but how do I update or remove it? I tried going to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ to delete it but it says it's being used by another program and I have no idea what that program is.

Looks like "hide files and folders" -- do you have that?

Yeah, I have that. I just uninstalled it. If the blue screen still comes up, I'll post.

I had that same error code come up on my brand new laptop..and my computer guy said it could be a conflict with McAfee virus scan software that I immediately installed.
This worked..Now I have to find Vista compatible virus software for the CRAPPY VISTA OS.
I bought this new laptop with a killer graphics chip, only to find out that VIsta makes it VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to play any games on it, including the BRAND NEW Medal Of Honor Airborn...
If I could delete Vista and get back to my XP on this new computer, I would do it IN A SECOND.
