Error With No Explanation(such a surprise)
Basically, story goes as follows:

I'm at work, at my employer says she wants to upgrade to windows vista(buisness edition). So naturally gritting my teeth, I said ok. I ask her for the licence yada yada. Get the disks, get the load screen for the installer.

I do the updates that it asks for first, then I input the cd key. And I click "next" and the error I get is "Windows Instillation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted".

So i've tried the following methods: Reformatted a couple PC's with xp pre-loaded and setup to basics, and tried installing vista. No luck.

Then I tried installing with XP deleted and HD formatted. Still get the same error each time.

The key is correct, as if I try and enter a bunch of random text it says "error cd key".

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

X

P.S. Also these comptuers are dell 8300s through the vista check up, they can all run vista.

I'm having the same issue. I'm attempting to test Vista on some of our Dell Latitude D620s using our corporate ID... however I'm getting the same message after typing the key in. I know the ID is correct and the version of Vista is correct, so I'm throughly confused. And as always, MS forums haven't been much help to me...
I found, however, that if I skip the key, it will let me install with an unactivated version... but I don't want to have to do that, then activate 120 other users as well..
Anyone have a clue? I'm plum out...

Solved...well the long way.

Called microsoft, they gave me a new key o.O tried it, and it worked. So not only am I baffled still. I would still ike to know why I didn't get a "error cd key".

Which is something I forgot to ask.....so if you hve to call them and talked to em.
