Unhappy Is it a vista problem?
My daughter recently lost one of her files. We have tried everything i.e.going into hard disc and are still not able to find it. We were told by our computer expert that it is a vista problem. Is this true? Has it happend to others? Is there any way to find this this lost file. Dell seems to think we go back? I do not want to lose more files!!! She has an exam next week and is desperate.

just my opinion but i think vista is AWFUL for finding files....

try searching this way: click search - advanced search and check the "include non indexed, hidden, and system files" box
for location select "everywhere"
then for the file put asterisks before and after the file name and for the extension - like:

*filename*.*

or.....
have you done all that and you think it has been deleted?

Try Agent Ransack. It really is a better searcher and will find hidden files, too. It doesn't do any preliminary caching, so it may be slower on first use, especially if you have a huge drive. But it will find everything that is there to be found.

Disappearing file
Thank you so much for the advice. My daughter informs me that the file was not deleted but just disappeared. It almost happened again to her today but she had saved it externally first.
