Angry VISTA Mail issues.....
Ok, I give up no one can seem to help me so I pose the challenge to all of you. Here's the situation: Just purchased a new Dell running Vista with MacAfee security. Everything seem to be working well until I imported my address book and old folders from my Outlook Express account from my old Windows XP machine. The symptoms (and there are many) are as follows.
Each time I open Vista mail I get these random events:
- can't connect to ISP
- connects to ISP, downloads e-mail, but nothing displays in the viewing window...but inbox folder shows the count of unread e-mails in paranthesis
- same as above but now get a meassage in the preview window that nothing to display in folder
- then finally it seems to work fine....for a while, then I can't delete an e-mail or move it to another folder

Finally the kicker, my wife uses the same machine, same ISP, but under a different user account and doesn't have any problems.

Is it possible something got corrupted when I imported files form my other machine folders?

No one (Dell, MacaFee, Microsoft) seem to want to own this one.

Corruption is possible.

You bought the PC from Dell, with an OEM preloaded Vista OS. All "support" therefore comes from Dell, that's what OEM is all about. Microsoft would be unlikely to be involved.

Not sure why you are involving McAfee, but that's one bit of software that I would not have installed. Plenty of good free AV's that do not suck the resources as McAfee and Nortons tend to.

But the problem has to be "you", if your wife's account works. So I doubt Dell will be more than slightly interested.

Have you tried deleting your email account and creating a new one?

Thanks for the vote of confidence (:-) but it's not me....it may be my account/identity on Vista. Yes I tried deleting the e-mail and setting it up to no avail. If it was just a case of not being able to read my e-mail it would seem more logical, but the fact that I'm getting such obscure results has me really stumped. I do suspect something got corrupted when I imported my old e-mails, but the Dell guy says no. Maybe I should create a new user id on the system, and then try re-establishing a new e-mail account under this identity.....thanks for making me think out of the box.
