Windows Vista unable to rename folders
Hello there,

One of our employees is currently using Windows Vista. The problem he has been having is it will not allow him to create new folders or rename folders in a network drive. Folders can be created and renamed on the local drive but on the network drive. Everytime we attempt to create a folder the following message appears: "the folder does not exist, the file may have been moved or deleted do you want to create it" we click yes we want to create it but the pop up with the same question just keeps reappearing.

The laptop we are using is a Compaq Presario B1900, 13.3 inch. The version of Vista is Business. The office version is 2003 professional.

Is there any way of fixing this without a re-install. This is a very annoying issue. Does the registry have to be changed in any way?

If anybody can please help me it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I have researched this issue on Windows Vista Forums. A solution to the problem is to Create the parameters key in the following location :HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/services/csc/parameters
Then within the parameters key, create a DWORD Value named
FormatDatabase with a value of 1 (hex) then reboot the machine.

Can anybody please direct as to how the above recommendation is done. If anybody can give me step by step instructions it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Based on the info you've given above, you can copy/paste this reg info below in Notepad and save as a reg file - then right click and merge it into your registry;

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\parameters]
"FormatDatabase"=dword:00000001

thanks blued.

I tried that but when I try and merge it to the registry I get the following:

"Cannot import:C:/desktop/fix.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files within the registry editor"

I am using Windows Vista business.

any ideas?

thanks

Blued,

This has worked. I forgot to include the Windows Registry editor version 5 in the script.

Problem solved.

thanks

Unhappy Tried but does not work
I tried this but when I reboot the FormatDatabase value is not there any longer. Tried several times with admin rights to the machine.

Unable to rename/move folder in windows vista
i was haveing the same problem with windows vista business. could not rename any forder and used to get message "the file and folder does not exist" then finally i got soluation from the net.

go to this link below and downlode "Folder_rename_fix_32.zip"

http://www.biline.ca/dl_files/Folder...x_Vista_32.zip

To install the file download it extract(unzip file using unzip software) the file which is called 'FD32.reg' right click on it and select 'Merge' you'll get a warning about how this could Foobar the system ignore and click OK. now if you can't install that way then extract it to a specific location, lets say drive C:\ then go Start - Run (or Win+R) - type: regedit c:\FD32.reg It should popup something about merging ignore and click OK. DONE....

i hope it will fix that rename problem in your pc.

good luck
