He worked for free and his name was google.com but now i have a problem which google is screwing me over with (on to the problem already!)

I recently treed to install windows vista. I used a second Hard Drive i previously partitioned. After I installed something went wrong with registration. No biggie. I just had to back up the absolute necessities and format my hard drive. Well I made two partitions on my hard disk this time and once again i installed vista. problem: After i reinstalled vista and extracted my backups from my archive, things started to go wrong. iTunes AND Windows Media Player don't work in Windows Vista (I am running the RTM x86 version of Windows Vista Ultimate by the way) because it said either I didn't ave speakers installed, no driver was present or... yada, yada, yada. My speakers are fine an play the error sounds when I screw up so why can't they just play music? iTunes was different. If I clicked to play the Music, it just wouldn't start. (If this has something to do with the fact that I just dragged over the music from some back up folders than... nevermind... I just figured you'd like to know) Well that also goes along with how when I'm on Windows XP my speakers are fine with the error messages and, oh wait. My second problem is how iTunes doesn't even start on windows XP, and Windows Media Player only plays my mp3's (which is normal i think it's just that 3/4 of my music is in m4a format and i don't want to convert it as of yet.) BEFORE I installed vista they worked fine. Once again, I figured, at least with itunes that I could just reinstall the program. The itunes setup kept getting errors now! Finally... I figured I would research on Vista because it is cooler and more elegant per se, (did I use 'per se' correctly?) SO NOW WHAT? well apparently Vista cannot detect my old Linksys wireless router through the little chip thingy I put in my computer (the green thing with the black antennae that gets in the way of all my wires) So to recap, here are my current problems:

1. iTunes does not play ANY music through windows vista
2. Windows Media Player says I don't have a driver installed or my speakers are missing and all that jazz but on XP they work fine
3. iTunes no Longer works on XP and will no longer install for that matter
4. Windows Media Player works on XP but only plays my mp3's which are about 1/7 of my entire music library
5. Windows Vista will not detect my wireless router through my wireless card thingy
6. God hates me

If you can solve any of the following problems regarding iTunes or the internet or God, i would be ever so greatful. (I don't care about windows media i just figured i'd add it in for information's purposes) Thank you very much... Love -Thikr

Well recently one of my speakers blew out (or so i thought) so i began to get very little sound even when the volume was maxed out. i began thinking, "what about my sound card?" So here is why i believe that may be the problem. As I said on vista, it doesn't detect sound hardware or drivers, but the video comes in. Well i got my pc about 2 years ago and vista only came out last year-ish so i started thinking the reason my video may work is because i got a new ATI radeon 512mb graphics card last year-ish. Since vista was just coming out it was probably one of the few pieces of hardware compatible with vista upon release. I also got a new dualcore ram as well 1gb kingston i think. Here is my theory... my sound card is still old so it probably wasn't GUARANTEED cmpatability with vista. I may have fried it (i dont know how) and so now it malfunctions on xp as well.

Things that contradict this:

1. I only hear sound out of one speaker, and so i believe i may have blown out the speaker
2. The fact that my speakers are old may be why they dont respond to vista.
3. My friend put in headphones one day and said he still couldnt hear but he is deaf (not really but he cant hear for sh**.
4.

NOT true... its actually the little "BEEP" sound that comes from your CPU when you lag and press to many buttons on the keyboard.

Im not looking for WHICH sound card i could use, only if i ACTUALLY need one or not. thanks again- Chao

If you are not hearing any sound with headphones plugged into the computer sound jacks -- and you have done the basics -- like reloading the sound card drivers -- you need a new sound card.

You can also just try physically removing and reseating the sound card -- possibly in a different slot.

i havent been to this post in a while as i rolled back to xp proffesional but when i had the same problem, some guy got me new sound card drivers and they worked. I recently downloaded the vista drivers for my sound card and also a driver for my "router-card-thing" but with the massive amount of viruses (viri?) i am hesitating to update. thanks again, Merry christmas
