Solved: Can't access process controls
As of yesterday my computer has been stupidly slow, it can load regular pages fine but it has problems with visual/audio media.
When I had windows XP I would fix this problem just by pressing ctrl, alt, delete, press on the 'process' tab, highlight an unneeded process that had too much commit charge and then get rid of it, but this isn't the case with Vista.
I press ctrl, alt, delete and all I can see is the tasks/programs that are being used, it has no other accessible tabs that are visible or right clickable.

I have tried going to the control panel, clicking on 'administrative tools' and then clicking on 'reliability and performance'. From here I can see the processes and their commit charge (under the bar labelled 'Memory'), but from here and in every other option available in the 'administrative tools' I can only see them, I can't get rid of the processes I don't need to speed my computer back up.

I know I don't have a virus, I use 'superantispyware' which is by far the best anti-virus software I have ever used, it has not detected anything malicious, so all I can think of is that Vista is just different from XP.

Please help.

Regards.

Here's a shot of my task manager, as you can see it's quite limited. No visible tabs, is this due to a setting or just different software?

'SuperantiSpyware', is not an antivirus program.....

These are Antivirus programs that work with Vista:
Avast! <--free
AVG <--free
CA Antivirus
F-Secure (Beta)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus
McAfee
NOD32
Norton
Sophos

Online scanners:
TrendMicro Housecall version 6.6 online scan http://www.trendsecure.com/security_..._free_scan.php

CounterSpy V2 is supported under Windows Vista 32 & 64 bit.

Super anti spyware is an anti virus program, if it weren't I wouldn't use it.

I need to know how to access my processes, not get more software...

What is that "dot" in the middle of the bar at the top of the pane?
Try clicking it (the dot) and see what happens.

Quite sorry to say Superantispyware is not an antivirus and before you contradict me, I am a reseller for it.
You had better run this online scan now:
www.bitdefender.com

Nothing happens, I tried that. There is nothing on the window that responds aside from the listed programs and buttons, and with those you can only close the programs listed or start a new task.

I've done that, and it still hasn't helped my situation, all I want to know is how to access my processes, I don't want anymore software.

Have you tried accessing it using Windows Explorer instead of Firefox?

I just reread your post and something else is wrong if you don't have the tabs when pressing Cont/Alt/Del...choose "Task manager" then you should see Applications, Processes, Services, Performance, Networking and Users as tabs...if you don't you can boot to the Vista cd and run repair down towards the bottom of the 1st screen for installation.

seems to me the menu bar is hidden. I'm not sure how to get it back, but pressing (alt) will temporary bring it back..
