Red face Long startup and sign-on time
My Lenovo R60 Notebook, that a bought in March 2007, takes always 5 minutes to boot and login. The disk is working under full load in that time and the reaction to user interactions is VERY slow. It take 30 seconds to start an application (Internet Explorer, Word or so). In fact the disk is fully working for 15 minutes after power on, but after 5 minutes the response of the system becomes more or less normal. CPU usage is low. The machine has this problem since the first day. I hoped it will disappear with bugfixes and software updates, but it did not until now. So I would very much appreciate any help.

Here are the details:

Model: Lenovo ThinkPad R60 (9461-HRG)

Operating system: Windows Vista Business (German version)

Components: Intel T5600(1.83GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion.

All software components of the system are up to date (Microsoft, Lenovo, etc.). There is no unusual software installed, mainly MS-Office and Kaspersky Anti Virus Version 6.0.614.

For the investigations I tried to start the Taskmanager as soon as possible to find out which processes are responsible for the heavy disk load, but could not solve the problem myself.

Here is a start up log of my actions (time is in min:sec):

00:00 Power on
01:05 Logon screen appears, logging in as admin (via fingerprint reader)
01:40 Desktop appears
01:58 Start Taskmanager (via right click at Taskbar)
02:26 Taskmanager window appears
02:33 Taskmanager: Click “Show processes of all users” à Taskmanager window disappears
03:14 Tasmanager re-appears (wit all processes)
04:00 Sidebar with clock-gadget appears
04:21 Gadget “Multimeter” appears
05:00 PC responds normally now, Disk keeps working intensely
10:00 Screenshots of Taskmanager (1 + 2). Sorted by I/O Bytes reading/writing
14:35 Disk becomes calm
15:00 Screenshots of Taskmanager (3 + 4). Sorted by I/O Bytes reading/writing

The screenshots are attached.

Thanks a lot
