windows mail
Does anyone know if it's possible to have the old Outlook Express work on VISTA. the new Mail program is terrible - it doesn't allow for folders in the "Contacts" file, like OE did, to add insult to injury since you can not export your address book WITH the folders already created in OE - you have to reenter each address in its appropriate folder - but even after you have done all that, Mail opens a single contacts list when you go to "To:" in composing a new message and you have to scroll through hundreds of amail addresses previously organized neatly in folders in alpha order. Is there any solution to this dilemma.

I'm not sure about OE6 on Vista, seeing as Windows Mail is technically counted as OE7, and OE6 isn't exactly distributed for direct download nowadays.
You can however use Thunderbird, which should work with those folders.
That feature was removed in OE7, not sure why. I'm kinda mad about that too. Sorry!

I did however find this article about exporting your contacts to CSV and importing them into Outlook:

What do you mean you can't make folders in Vista's mail contacts? Are you talking about something other than the Files>Folder>New? I'm new to this, so trying to understand how it all works better. Sorry if I sound dumb
Cheers

I,m also not clear what the poster is querying so don,t feel too humbled. The folders bit confuses me. But you can certainly "import" your OE contacts into Windows Mail.
A suggstion is that you download Live mail. It is superior in several ways and may satisfy your request.

Thanks uhaligani for your kind words. I never had OE, and maybe thats a bonus as I haven't come to Vista with preconceived notions. I'm really enjoying it. The only things I've found wrong with Vista so far have been caused by my own ignorance, which I'm slowly trying to lessen. I will certainly look into the Live mail option.
Cheers

Get Outlook 2003
I had major issues with windows mail not sending attatchments so I got Thunderbird which worked a little better. I still had some issues with emails not sending properly and was unable to get any help. Vendors blamed the ISP and the ISP blamed the software vendors. I have MS Office 2002 which works fine except that Vista only accepts Outlook 2003 or newer. So I bought a copy of Outlook 2003 online and everything has been great ever since.

I'm glad you got everything sorted in the end. I wonder why some have trouble with windows mail and others don't? I haven't had any trouble with it at all, at least so far, touch wood. Have plenty of trouble with my ISP though...
Cheers

Yeah this is odd as I don't like it, but have had no real issues with Windows Mail.

Stumbled on the fix... the folder needed to be set to contacts type template.
