error downloading and continual freezing
I have been encountering some problems with downloading recentely.

I am using firefox 2.0.0.7 and Download Statusbar
Windows Vista Home Premium v6 (build 6000)

As of late, something has gone wrong with my downloading of a file…

Whenever I try to download any file, I click on the download button, the box appears saying do you wish to open or save this file. I click save and save to the directory c:/users/ Daniel/Documents and clicked save. Nothing happens.. Initially, I assumed that nothing was downloading until I went into the directory that I was saving the file to and part of it is there, what I mean is…

Say for example I am downloading from Rapidshare. My file (XXX) has appeared in my documents. There is XXX.rar and XXX.rar.part. It appears to be downloading but yet it does not display so in Firefox.
So I tried in Internet explorer, but when I click on save it doesn’t even bring up the box for me to choose the directory, it just doesn’t display anything after I click save.
This implies that it is not my browser that is the problem. I have tried reinstalling firefox with no luck.

Also, I have been experiencing regular freezing with my computer. These are the specs of my computer; however I do not think they will be relevant:

M2N4-SLI motherboard,
AMD X2 5500+ (dual core at 2.8ghz)
NVIDIA 8600GTS
2GB DDR RAM

I have never experienced a problem with my computer before hand but all of a sudden it started to do this, I wonder whether I have done something to cause it, I am trying different experiments with not running certain programs to see if they are what is causing the freezing.

When it freezes, whatever I do I have to reboot. If I press CTRL ALT DEL nothing happens, it just completely freezes it.
I am pretty sure that it is not a virus that is causing this, I have run a full scan of my pc with BitDefender and the results are clean.

I have been fiddling with “about:config” in firefox and I wonder whether this could be anything to do with it. Is there a way to set this to default again?
I am really stuck with these two problems and I though that there was a small chance that they may be related so I have put them together.

Here is a list of software on my computer if it helps:

It's very strange, I have a feeling that it's firefox that is causing the problem however I do not know this.

Help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

My first thought is spyware and if I were you I would download and install Superantispyware, update it and run a complete scan...www.superantispyware.com.
The only antispyware I see you running is hopelessly inadequate for today's issues and the other thing I wonder about is Norton (NIS2007) that I have been taking off of machines for slowing them to a crawl for several months now.

Thankyou, I will do so.

Something to add, my internet explorer is now downloading correctely (I found out downloading the super anti spyware). However firefox is not. That changes the look of things because I am now sure that it must be that "about:config" thing I did, anyone know how to set it to default?

Go Tools, Options and on the very first screen you will see restore defaults.
By any chance what add-ons did you add to Firefox?

I know this isn't a great solution, but I have had some pc's where Firefox just didn't run right so I use the full Mozilla "Sea Monkey" which never has these issues. It is a full browser with the same speed, not a ghost of a browser like FF where you have to add everything.
