Exclamation Solved: norton 360 messed up vista
My girlfriend's daughter has a brand new laptop with vista installed.(compaq 1.7ghz 64x2 athlon AMD).
We tried installing Norton 360 on it last night from a brand new disc but it wouldn't complete the installation.
Now i can't uninstall any of the norton software that was deposited on the compter.
I have tried doing a system restore to all restore points available but it won't do this either.
It seems to work but upon restart it says it has failed and to try another restore point.
I want to rid the computer of the evil norton software and then run AVG as I do on my own cos it does exactly what its supposed to without seemingly messing with the o/s.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes. I would advise against all norton software. It does more harm than good it slows down your machine considerably - it's bloated for a antivirus. Symantec make the norton range for home PC's the stuff they do for business/corporate is much better designed. Also avoid McAfee like the plague! Personally I do not use an Anti-virus software its hyped up to scare people, most problems are not virus related but are mistakenly attributed to them! Sensible precautions is all that's required. If you really do want to install an anti-virus NOD 32 is a good choice Kaspersky is good also. If you can't uninstall norton completely other people have had a bad time trying to rid it! There is a Norton removal tool available from Symantec's web site.

You need to download the Symantec removal too:

My advice is sterr clear of Avg in Vista, it does not work right. use either Nod32 or if you have to have free, then Avast (www.avast.com)
