Hi! I connected an external USB floppy drive to a Dell Inspiron 531S so some files could be transferred from a floppy disc to the hard drive of the computer. The computer is running Windows Vista Home Basic edition. The drive works fine but when I try to read one particular floppy disc, explorer hangs and the only way I can recover is to manually power off the computer. This happens regardless of the guest account or an administrator-privileged account being used.
I took the floppy to work and learned the problem is one particular file on the floppy which is apparently bad. XP was able to "hang" just on the one file and recover when I took the disc out of the internal floppy drive. As a result, I was able to get all the OTHER files off the floppy disc and put them on a different floppy disc. With Vista, I couldn't get this far since when I would open the floppy disc to view the contents, the filenames would appear and then explorer would go off into "la-la" land.
Any ideas on how I could prevent this kind of misbehavior with Vista in the future? I mean other than not reading floppy discs with "bad" files on them.
Thanks!
Peace...
