No drivers are required for DVD drives. What does the Device Manager look like and say?

Have you installed or uninstalled anything related to the drive lately, like burning sofware or file recovery software?

Don't know where you went, but since you don't need drivers, you may have a problem with a filter driver trying to load that is no longer present. Try this fix for that problem:

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN.

2. Enter REGEDIT and press Enter.

3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

If you are not familiar with using the Registry edit, a word of warning. 1. Backup the registry. ". you will find a large number of entries under the Path described. (I have about 30) You may need to scroll down to find the one relating to DVD's.
Woops. PS (later) I don't have anything particularly wrong with my drives, but I thought I would give that a whirl to, hopefully, pass the info on to others in need. My first BSOD since beta 2!!
