Unhappy Solved: DistributedCOM (DCOM) errors Vista
I consistently receive ID error #1010 and #1016 from System-Microsoft-windows-DistributedCOM: "The application-specific permission settings do not grant local Activation permission for the COM server application with CLSID......for the user name/name SID (S-1-5-21....) from address LocalHolst (using LRPC) This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

I found a fix for XP on MS support site, but the printing is so small you can't read it with a magnifying glass (literally). It also references tools VISTA apparently doesn't have. Also, my program doesn't have the Component Services admin tool--at least I can't find it. I have searched the internet, found a couple of possible fixes, but I didn't understand a word they were telling me other than I needed to make registry changes. I don't mind doing that as long as I have very clear directions on what I'm doing...the registry is a little scary for me.

What started as application "warnings" escalated into "errors" and has now advanced "error" notifications into "Security" and "System" event logs. I need to get this resolved. Thanks.

Hi. I pulled down the info from the website. I'll try to follow what appears to be pretty simple (except for the caveat on server?). Will let you know the results. I may get my computer running smoothly yet.

Yea, Hurray! Problem is solved, thanks to your recommendations. I even managed to venture into the registry all by myself and made the appropriate corrections. So far, I haven't crashed so I guess I did it right. Thank you for all your help
