Can't Safely Remove External Drive
When I choose to "Safely disconnect" my external hd it tells me a program is still using it. Since I only have a couple of apps open at the time and neither of them should be using it, how to find out what's using the drive?

Thanks,
Harold

safe remove
If there are no ongoing processes that involve the drive, there are no perils in just removing it.

"neither of them should be using it"
But are they using it?

I see this sometimes on my XP machines also. I have found that YES indeed it was in use, as I still had Windows Explorer open and the external drive was selected. [blush]

There is also System Restore to consider. If you don't need it on that drive, be sure it is off. Defragging programs, like O&O, also monitor usage to better optimize file placement. If you have media files on that drive and have enabled it, it is also being monitored by Media Player.

Unlocker may show you what is using it. Or OpenedFilesView will tell you what files are open by what.
