Angry I want to kill Internet Explorer!
Okay you guys have never let me down! Help me figure this one out...

I have Vista home basic. Last week my Internet Explorer would not load. I got error messages that said a program was cause the problem. I uninstalled what I could and decided to use Moxzilla Firefox instead. Now I cannot install my system updates the screen goes black with random blue squares everywhere. I have also tried to do a system restore and the screen went black with blue squares again. I tried to uninstall Google Toolbar for IE and the screen once again went black. I have a feeling it is something to do with Internet Explorer. But it won't let me do a system restore. How do I go about uninstalling IE and then reinstalling it? I would rather use IE than Moxzilla. I can get online fine and I have done a memory diagnostics test...I need help! I'm so worried!

Since you are using Windows Vista (ugh....), I would assume you are using Internet Explorer 7. In order to uninstall IE7, simply click on start (or that little flag thing that Vista users have), then click "Set program Access and Defaults", from there find and click on "Add and remove progams," and scroll down until you find Internet Explorer 7. However, it seems to me that you have a much more serious problem. What program exactly did you delete?

I think you have a hardware problem -- either overheating -- or a bad graphics/card or chip.

Can you boot in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking without problems?

What happens if you "clean boot" >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 << for Vista, but applies equally to XP, and better written.

I don,t know which version of Vista Donmario has been looking at, but that path will get you nowhere. I think he means Control panel/programs/Uninstall a program. But you will not find IE listed there on any Vista that I have used.
Go with Rolling Roger. It's a hardware or other Software problem - nothing to blame IE for.

So, just to clear the air, Windows vista removed the options for Users to be able to Uninstall Windows Media Player and Internet Explorer. Its not allowed. Period. I think you might want to have you're manufactorer check it out to save you some trouble since it's a vista you should still be under some type of warrenty. And it will save you some hassle... Unless its a dell of course.

What the hell kind of crooks are these people?!?!?!? First they illegally bundle their web browser with their operating systems (starting with Windows 98), and now they make IE7, and their crappy media player impossible to uninstall??? And on the issue at hand, it does sound like a problem with your hardware.

Do you have Skype? If so, uninstall it.

It doesn't play well with Vista.

Just a thought.

Probable that you have one or more of the following
bad drivers
bad OS install

more probable.....
bad video cable
bad video card
bad LCD or CRT

It would be extremely unlikely for IE7 to be causing an issue like this.
In other words, if it happens to be IE7, you would be among the .001 percecnt of the world population to have it happen to. I have seen strange things before though.

IE7 could be the catalyst for the actual problem, but I doubt it is IE7 itself.

I would reinstall drivers first. Then start looking at hardware problems. Then reinstall the OS as a last resort.

In all cases of wierd video problems that I have ever seen. It has always been drivers, or hardware causing the issue. Yes, even on vista.

Infact, just the other day, one of our regular customers called. Yes, I fixed the problem over the phone .
They were having video issues with thier system.
They said that a regular customer of thiers had come into the store, (they say he is savvy with computers).
They said, he said that it was registry corruption (possible) or other corruption (sure, maybe) and that the OS would have to be reinstalled (doubtful).
I walked them through reinstalling the video card drivers and they were fine.
Most likely cause? (someone screwing around with the PC, cause the date was set to 2042)
Improper shutdown, (caused by turning it off incorrectly, or power flucuation) Get a battery backup.
Bad windows update video card drivers.
Or some other fluke (not common).

Re using Firefox--many websites require IE (ie banks, MS, etc), but Firefox has an add-in that mimics IE that you can download. Have you tried that? It might help until you can get your problem worked out with Explorer.

They did not "illegally" Bundle anything. If you don't like IE, delete all the shortcuts and install another browser. IE does not run in the background so should not trouble you.
You philosophy would indicate that if you bought a vehicle with an ashtray, and you were a non smoker, the ashtray was included illegally.
Most of the complaints about Microsft are. like your own, hackneyed from quotations in pundit sources, and mostly without foundation. As a European, I would extend that remark to the beliefs and actions of the European government, over Windows Media player. Most of the "yeh" voting members had never actually seen or used the media player, but were voting on actions from their Whips.
