Steveie85: You've yet to prove any valid point of the value of Windows Vista. You've miss-quoted me, made assumptions, made incorrect statements and think that I am in envy of you for some odd reason. You've called me a liar - which is childish, my experinces are not lies. You accused me of ripping off clients when I didn't - and if I did things your way with your math, it would have added about $4000 to the price of 10 systems. (but you were confused and thought I said "$2000 per computer" - even thou my statement clearly was for the whole package). My personal experince with Vista is on par with much of the computer industry. If vista was bill gate's gife to the world that worked like it should - then they wouldn't have extended the production of WinXP and that manufactures are still having issues.

Good for you that YOU are not having issues with vista. But most people do... and the problem is that they shouldn't have such problems for an OS Update that is nothing more than a new skin job. If M$ wanted a smoother and happier market, they should done vista better... after 6 years... so much for being "the best". Even YOU yourself say "disable this and that" hmmm, as does everyone else. I have asked you more once, WHAT does vista do for anyone. Does it run photoshop better? no. Does it make the internet better or faster... no (perhaps slower a bit). Is it easier to use? Easy answer, no. Does it have better wallpapers included over XP? Yes, yes it does!

I'm not a robot, I'm not a kiss-*** and the way you FIX something is by making statements and sharing ideas and experinces. We're not living under USSR rules (I get the feeling you would prefer it) so we do kind of still have that right.

I very happy that I DO NOT have dreams of what comes out of microsoft's door. Like any other company, some stuff is good, some well... junk. That's is what having an honest original opinion is about.

Back to real life, gotta go!

No problem, I will even let you know what I think of it as I plan on updating one of my Vista computers at my shop.

I have returned from perusing the UNIX/Linux forum, a sadder but wiser man.

It seems even those well versed in the mysteries of these fabled OS's have problems !
I know, I was shocked too !

I have decided to stop calling these folk arrogant and sneering in there attitude towards Micro$oft OS's and embrace them as fellow suffers.

(cue video from Blues Brothers movie, you know, the bit in the church with James Brown and Chaka Kan, mmmm Chaka Kan).

No compiler you misunderstood and misquoted me and took all my posts out of context. You wana talk about childish take a good long hard look at yourself. You say the way to FIX something is to make statements, share ideas and experinces, well I made statements, I shared ideas, and I shared experinces but you chose to ignore them, hmmmm looks childish too me. Also compliler how long did it take for XP to become a "stable" OS? It sure wasn't when it came out!! It took many years of updates and 2 service packs for it to become a "great" OS. I am sorry if you can't admit that fact useing your one track mind. Your a one trick pony that is wore out. Move on, accept the fact that in Jan 09 your clients won't get regular updates or phone support from Microsoft and that you WILL have to start selling systems running Vista. By the way there are many new features, and of course updates to the oldies. Defrag is now a one click deal. Help has many new diagnostics and tools. Windows Mail is now out and is very stable and quick, in fact quicker then Outlook. There are new games, WMP11 and IE7 have been made stable and improved upon the predeccesors. I am sorry if you can't accept the fact you are wrong. It is truly sad. I am sorry if you can't land big contracts like I can. I don't need to do big presentations, all I need to do is make a call talk to a person give a few names of other companies I have done/do work for and I usally get a fairly large contract. Once again I am sorry if you can't accept Vista is the new OS and is hear to stay. If you don't like it you can always start selling $1200 Mac's(thats the starting price, can't go cheaper).

Compiler I've changed my mind, having seen the further discussion and following my usage, and the lack of real advantages to end user for Vista put forward by proponents, and due to M$ now marketing XP Home Basic again.

I wish I had, been able to get cheapo XP Home Basic. An install of 15GB and needing 2GB RAM for smooth operation is way too bloated for having a prettier interface. I'd run my applications in a virtual machine, and prevent XP browsing by firewall to avoid needing anti-virus/spyware & all the rest of the crapola.

I worked on a computer for a couple who had XP Home Basic on their computer and were talked into getting a new computer with Vista. They had a few problems that were easily fixed, but the biggest problem was the performance. In spite of their new computer being a step up in regard to hardware specifications, it was much slower than their old computer WITH problems. They asked me to put XP on their new machine. Just sayin'.

Coffeefool Yeah... with microsoft sheep types... What you just said didn't happen. Nobody has problems with vista, and what problems they are having are minor and requires new hardware to correct.

Funny... you keep changing dates and such, unless you've gone back and edited your posts, but so far:

On Message #45, you said "Microsoft says mainstream support ends 14/04/09 which is APRIL 14 2009, not September like you "claim" Hmmm... now you're saying April 09 when I had already corrected you... and you skip that XP SP2 has a longer date by Microsoft's own website of 5 years since release, which does put XP-SP2 at September 17, 2009 - Almost 2 years from now. But again, you still ignore AGAIN that XP support is till 2014 which is free security updates - which is about ALL that Microsoft has been doing for XP for the past 2 years.

As you said again in #45 : "The extended support ends April 8 2014." Hmmm, Microsoft will be supporting XP for many more years. There is no rush for vista. And with the release of SP3 coming soon, it may follow the same rules for SP2.

And you seem easily confused by numbers and such. As quoted from you from #45:
"They love there Vista systems. All of which I built for under $900USD. So all this talk that it costs over $2000 is ludacirs." Where you think *I* said it would cost $2000 to build a decent vista PC.

This is in reference to Message #14 that I posted: "I just delivered 10 systems for a business/network. If I had gone with vista (instead of $120 XP-MCE which is a cheaper/newer Pro) - Each system would have cost about $200 more - $2000 total. Instead of $60 CPUs, 1GB RAM, etc I would have needed faster CPUs, etc to get simular performance without any actual benifits to the company."

Hmmm... that is what we call a "mis-quote" on your part. Then you call me a thief, but I pointed out if I had gone with YOUR recommendations, I needed to correct my figures as it would have cost a client about an extra $4000 to go with vista for no actual benifits. (2 PCs were rebuilt that the client owned that were good enough for XP, but would have choked with Vista)

Defrag is now a one click deal.
Most people hate it... very slow, no visual indicators of how long its going to take or how badly the drive is fragmented... And at the same time, Microsoft makes Display Properties more crumblesome because some retard thought the TAB system was too confusing.

Quote:
WMP11 and IE7 have been made stable and improved upon the predeccesors.
Media Player Classic is faster and more stable than WMP without all the bloat and Advertisements. IE7 hides the cache folder even more so - since IE has NEVER been able to ACTUALLy delete all files, making it more difficult for the avg. person to clean out thousands of files sucking up hundreds of megs of useless data. Opera has had the features for years that IE is boasting today... wow, some of us are just not impressed. Opera smokes IE7.

LOL!!! Funny! Somehow you know what I sell or do? Presentations? What presentations do you think I do? And you big contracts? I love this quote from you from #115:
Lets see, I have built 18 systems running Vista(of course by customer choice), and not one of them has come back for a downgrade to XP. While yes 2 did come back, they were for virus/malware issues, NOT OS issues. So lets do some math 18 systems built, 18 systems with no complaits = 100% satisfaction and 100% reliability!!

HP, Dell, Lenovo sells a lot more than 18 systems with Vista. And you ignore the articles and blogs from people and companies in the business who know a lot more than you and me with their issues with vista.... like vista problems are not there.

2 comeback? Whoa! Vista is supposed to prevent such problems, especially with the UAC and other built-in measures?! Wonder why they failed?

Oh well. I'm happy....

With some users, the only way to prevent malware is to boot them *only* via CD-ROM. They just will click on bad stuff no matter what.

My Vista box has expired, unable to Post nevermind boot an OS. It is down to a new Vista feature!

This is result of Winflash, having problems after erasing the BIOS, and getting frozen at 5%. Knowing not to turn off, attempted to flash again. That time a pop up appeared "No Valid Windows License found - OK" clicking resulted in machine being Powered off and immediately totally useless, with no way to recover. Result long support call with Dell, and they're having to swap the mobo!

Well designed this trusted platform & DRM.. NOT!

I've stumbled into a genuine Vista feature (not that it wrecks your motherboard this time).

Scaleable fonts - http://antigrain.com/research/font_r...ion/index.html

You only think you had them with XP, but actually the resolution was limitted and M$ did over-aggressive hinting in past, aimed at the prevailing screen resolutions.

To set the record straight, in my case. It's not a question of being a "hater" of other systems, or of being particularly fond of one or another. I speak as I find and I've not had any problems, to date (should I have, and what system ever runs indefinitely without some problem or other, I know where to come for good advice).

In summary, my Visita Home Premium runs well, it's not slower than XP, which I ran before - in fact, I've found it "nippier".

Having been locked out of my own machine, with the motherboard wrecked, when it had been working perfectly, purely due to a license check failing, when I have a valid license; I now believe Vista is wose than worthless.

If I can get an XP/Linux BIOS with none of the Vista DRM features, then I will install XP. It is not acceptable to risk a repeat, especially in future years when support contract has expired, and replacement parts may be hard to find.

Sure they are.
You just have a misconception of who the owner is.
You are the leasee. If you install MS.

You license the software.

The hardware is yours, but they appear to have little respect for other's property, just their obsession with their software rights.
