Compare Vista with actual game or software, not a GPU benchmarking program... With a couple of 3870, you're score is gonna be high

I game on Vista all the time, why else would I even have a pair of 3870's? I really see no difference. I am only stating that a machine "capable" of running Vista properly is going to be fine. It is the OEM's claiming "Vista ready" with underpowered machines that have given the OS a huge black eye.

UAC is always disabled on my machine. That is the first thing I learned how to do with Vista. I then turned off the "nag icon" in my task bar in the security center. I had a few small issues that were overcome in just a few days. I have dual booted for awhile but not for much longer really. I only boot into XP to compare OS's anymore and I could use the HDD space for better purposes at this point.

I have been with Vista since it was released but only recently bought the 3870's because I wanted DX10.1 capability. I waited for a good card at a fair price to hit the market before I made the plunge though.

I gave one of my X1800's to my sister in law and I am giving the other to my sister. They are not gamers, just into paint shop and such. The cards will last them quite awhile.

x1800... perhaps they'll last a few years...

One of the other things I found down-graded from XP is the Security Center. On Vista, its either ON or OFF... with XP, you could select which items to turn ON or OFF. IE: Disable Auto-Updates on Vista, and Secutity Center will NAG you about it... but what if you want to know if something has screwed up/disabled your firewall or AntiVirus software? There was nothing difficult with the previous setup.

Yeah, the "built in" security is a pain I admit but it was most likely to protect people that will click on anything. I haven't caught a bug (knock on wood) with vista yet and it had been awhile since I had anything on XP. I have had a few scares over the years but the last real bug I had that couldn't be dispatched was a lop.com hijack back in about 2001. I ended up reformatting to get rid of it. I know I wasn't a member here yet when it happened.

When I am in doubt, I post a HiJack This log in the security forum. I am either careful or lucky. Take your pick. I am not saying vista is perfect. No MS OS has ever been close to perfect. I know when I moved from 98 to XP I hated XP. Over half of my games were useless. Even ME could be hacked to allow you to play dos games. It wasn't even a hack, you just needed to boot with a start up disk.

If I were to sit in front of a computer at this point in time and needed to use DOS commands I would struggle for sure. I just wonder what windows 7 is going to bring to the table. Is it going to have the WFS vista was supposed to have? I am thinking vista was released due to pressure from OEMs and consumers before it was 100% ready. MS was already well behind schedule with the release.

All said and done. Vista isn't perfect but it isn't a total POS either.

:edit:Yeah I figure for a couple of women that like to fiddle around in PSP the X1800's will last a few years. My sister is at this point using a 6600GT and is just now starting to whine a little bit.
