http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 try running the norton removal tool if you haven't already done so.
Why wouldn't you try a clean install if it's a new machine? Can't be much on it.

Problem with over the counter systems is your buying Software you would never install youeself.

Main reason most of these Programs are preinstalled is repeat business/subscription

More than likely your got leftover bits from Norton still in your computer.

More interesting is if you follow the Malware sections you will note AVG Superantispyware
and several other free programs are top of the list in correcting detecting Malware etc.

I did note one repair where they removed leftover Norton files.

I might add I had the ubeaut Virus (top of the line) and Spyware all up date which let in the Vundo virus. Destroying files etc till the stage where I had to reformat.

Both AVG free and Superantispyware found the Vundo but I had fooled around to long with the ubeauts and their housecalls which found nothing.

I am now running Vista Premium with AVG free and SuperAntispyware Pro free with no compatability problems

another free antivirus program that is absolutely wonderful is antivir if you go to http://www.free-av.com/ and go to download tab it is a direct install from the main website but i guess there is space issues so the product has its own website. it updates once a day does a cirus scan once a day very simple and easy for anyone to use. we use it at the school i work at and even teacher that have no experience with computers love it since it is so simple.
