Solved: Can't Play Audio or Video Files
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. Recently, I have been trouble playing video and audio files. I cannot play them in Windows Media Player, iTunes, or any other media-playing program. Does anybody know a reason for this? Your help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

I've recently encountered the same problem. In fact, it happened as recently as last night. Before last night I had no problem playing videos in Windows Media Player or DivX player, and had no problem playing music in Winamp. But for whatever reason, now whenever I load a movie onto WMP or DivX, it'll play for 4 to 6 seconds, then just pause and no longer play. And there's no sound. Even when I go to youtube and watch videos off the site, the video will play like it's in slow-motion, and there's no sound. And as for MP3s, Winamp won't play them. I'll load up my playlist, and either press play, or double-click on a random song, and nothing happens.

The only change to my computer (that I can think of) was a Windows automatic update last night. But I don't know if that's the cause or not.

The error message I receive in Windows Media Player is error code C00D11D2
I also cannot play audio or video in iTunes.
I have the exact same problem as my cohort above.
But videos play fine in Quicktime.
I'm so confused!

See if K-Lite Codecs helps:
http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

I've also read that letting Aim update, will create this problem.

i figured it out for all those that may be having the same problem. Try the following:

I had been looking around the web for 2 months now trying to find an answer to why my Windows Media Player 11 stopped working and I kept getting the C00D11D2 error about proxy settings, permissions etc..
I noticed a common theme amongst people was that most of them had recieved an AIM update (6.0) prior to this happening.

I finally figured out what the problem was yesterday.

Apparently, this update cause the sound system to check the box "that enables 1 program to take full control (permissions) of sound on the computer.) Even though I had deleted AIM, it hadn't unchecked the box from the updates settings.

I suggest that you try the following:

Go to Start: Type in Sound.
Open up the Sound
You will see probably one of two speakers - If you have Vista Home then it should be the standard Sigmatel. Right click on it and go to Properities. I advanced, uncheck the box that says "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"

My WMP 11 started working immediately.

I hope this works for you as well.

Good Luck
