Are there performance differences among the different editions of Vista?
My computer came with Vista Home Basic, which drove me crazy so I downgraded to XP Home, but I've been having to run System Restore so much lately that I think I'm going to reformat, and I'm thinking that this time I might just go ahead and try to cope with Vista, since eventually XP won't be compatible with most programs anyway.

Anyway, I'm able to get Vista Business for a good price through my university, and I was thinking I might want to get that instead of using the Home Basic that came with my computer. My question, then, is are there any differences in performance (speed and stability, specifically) between Home Basic and Business?

The differences aren't speed, they are video affects, auxiliary programs etc...go here and see the difference:
