Yahoo Vista woes
Since recently purchasing a new lap top with vista ultimate I have had major problems with yahoo ive tried beta version 9 and now back to version 8 for australian users. I have no sound in rooms which given the quality of chat in most rooms is not a major issue I have seen the downoad tsp codec install.exe recommended as a fix and would like to know is this safe. The most frustrating problem overall is im chat windows wont open they are either reduced down to a tiny form which im unable to open or stay min on task bar and on trying to open or maximise just open as a tiny solid black rectangle hence yahoo has become useless as im unable to respond. This problem is not 100% of the time once in a while a message opens. I am at my wits end on how to fix. When i first dowloaded yahoo I was using the trial version of nortons anti virus that came with the laptop. I am now using kasperky i had the same problem with both anti virus programs. Please help I have searched forums everywhere for an answer and forgive me if i somehow missed a post on this my regular forum.

Hi

You should install that codec... your problems may be solved then.

I haven't used Yahoo in a while... i do remember a fair number of reports way back then of norton & some other security app conflicting with it.

Can we assume that sound is otherwise ok in your pc?

I tend to dislike today's internet security hysteria... it really mimics 9/11's... too many apps(& OS) try to protect w/ overly restrictive settings, scanning of web traffic, etc. in redundant, overprotective fashion-- causing too many conflicts & slowdowns all over the place.

You should be ok after installing the codec.... let us know....

thanks so for much for the response the codec only addresses the sound issue it does not alter the most crippling issue of message windows not opening properly..........and yes you can assume sound issue is only in yahoo .........thanks again for your reply

Oh, sorry-- didn't get the part re the windows not opening correctly....

Here's my take:

1. Yahoo STILL has not ironed out Vista issues.

2. Here's a review i've seen more than once:

My biggest gripe with Yahoo Messenger is their chat rooms, which are in need of major updates. It sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts to enter a room because it takes too long to log on. And when you do get on it's just plain chaos. Chat rooms seem to be run by spam bots, booters and the annoying pricks who spend 30 minutes saying Hello over and over even when others say hello back.

3. It is SO HARD to find good help resources, even third party, for YM.

3. IF you're not married to the video aspect, i have heard many, many good things about this up and comer: http://wwwl.meebo.com/

and of course, Gaim & Trillian have had great reputations for eons.

Sorry that i can't be of more help.

Smile yes and yes again
I agree whole heartedly with your take on yahoo. Like i said the sound issue was the least of my problems as you can only listen to hello and other banal comments in a room for so long. My habit was to sign in and mute the room. Im after the obscure and the elusive but not unheard of quick witty and engaging chat. Help on yahoo as you said is difficult to find .........yahoo answers I find is useless..... a case of the uniformed responded to by the ill informed. I am only new to tech guy forums and have found it an excellent resource......which unfortunately due to reoccurring problems I am having with vista and combined with the fact that Kaspersky anti virus has turned me into a computer dumb kid I am returning too often. Thanks for your response and Ill have a look at those sites ......cheers!
