Press the Prt Scr Key .. to the right of the f12 key.
Alt+PrtScr will capture (COPY) just the active window.

Now open an app that you can PASTE a picture to .. such as Paint or Word ... and PASTE
Then see "Go Advanced" >> "Manage Attachments" in the reply .. and attach it.
Use a gif format if you can .. otherwise use jpeg ... or you can zip a doc file.

Create junk so the sales of the old XP will increase and people will have to buy twice ...

The purchase of my next new computer has been delayed for several years.

No, only those that listen and watch the Apple ads. There is always new items that must be cleared up and limitations with any new OS including the MAC. MS just has not elected to attack their competitor like Apple does.

These limitations include OLD hardware and software. If MS had control of ALL SW and HW vendors like apple does there would be a lot less issues. Remember when Apple let other OEM's make hardware to run the MAC OS, well it did not last long and their product went downhill real fast.

I agree. there is nothing to be "scared" of. It's just a new OS. It has some new features. It's not like you suddenly get transported to some alien environment where you don't speak the language. It's more like being transported to, oh, I don't know, Washington State? You'll assimilate their customs very quickly.

Now that your friend reclaimed their Computer .. Where are you headed now ..
and what can we help (confuse) with.

You wouldn't be so Scared if you had a backup/recovery plan.
IMHO .. Anyone without an External HD and some Good software ...
also drives a car without a spare tire and insurance.

Got the Screen Shots figured out yet ??

An inserted picture must be located somewhere else, such as a hosting site like Image Shack or a personal web site.
Like this image linked to in one of my personal pages ...
Can't link back to your personal computer files, they're not accessible from the outside world (internet).

To attach a picture here ...
Go to Advanced >> Manage Attachments ... and upload your picture here.
The picture (if a jpeg) must be under 300K in size ...
Like this picture of my former supervisors all dressed up.

For screen shots .. gif image formats are usually better.

Good morning ... and Clear it is.
I usually try to shrink the window to just what is important then, do ALT+PrtSCN ...
to grab just the active window ... to make it a bit smaller.

This also reduces the file size .. and I see you barely made it under the 300K limit.
No need to insert and attach .. unless you're just playing for the education.

What Image viewing and editing program are you using ??

OK .. My last attach was made in CS2

<= 800 pixels wide in a gif format usually make better Screen Shot attachments here ...
Can Paste into PS .... But I use the freeware Irfanview for the simple stuff.
Gif usually results in a smaller file size and it's cleaner without the jpeg compression artifacting around the sharp edges of text.
Looks like you took that screen shot with something I'm not Familiar with ... PrtScr43 ??

Was that a screen shot of your friends Computer ??
Does he still have Cold Feet ?

That was a screenshoot of my friends laptop's "my computer" screen. ( Yes I know in vista it is no longer "my computer" but just "computer", but what the heck I have been used to telling "my computer" for so many years, and old habits die hard!)

I used the freeware Gadwin Printscreen

Actually, after he read the opinion of all in this thread, he just seems to wonder is it worth the risk to partition his c: if there are no clear benefits?

He may be right. If he sticks with one partition, at least there is less risk. A major operation like a partitioning really should have a complete backup beforehand since it is so major. Something goes wrong and all is lost.

There might be a small benefit if one has a huge amount of Data stored ...
But it all starts with a backup procedure and external storage.

There are two types of HDs ... Those that have failed and those that will.
And I've found that the HDs are a whole lot more reliable than the Microsoft operating system that's in it.

My computer is about 14 months old now, and I've had to restore the OS about 5 times now.
My current weird problem is that I cannot scan for Viruses.
I've tried AVG, Norton (from the Google pack) and Panda house call.
They all hang up and stop scanning several minutes into the scan.
And my Acronis seems to hang up when examining my HD for a Backup or Recovery.

I'll probably put a fresh OS back in today .. Should only take me about 30 minutes.

The last time I had to do a recovery was because I updated to M$ WMP11.
Took me a long time to figure out that was why my Sonic Record Now quit working.

Nowadays .. I put on three pair of thermal socks and make sure I'm backed up before I even do a Windows update.

The best thing I've learned about here at TSG .. was Acronis True Image.
