System configuration missing
I cannot use the system configuration utility in Vista. It has quit functioning. I have tried opening it through the Run function and through Control Panel/Admin Tools. Is there any way to reinstall or repair it? I originally had Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled by Dell. I then purchased a downloadable version of Vista Ultimate, so I am running Ultimate. I then migrated my volumes to RAID using the intel matrix storage control. I have tried to reinstall Vista through boot but can't seem to do this. And now when I try to open my homepage it freezes. I have had other programs freeze the system. Any suggestions including reverting to XP would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Did you try to type "msconfig" in the searchbar and was it listed at the top?

You may have a virus. Download HijackThis and post report in a new thread in security subforum.

In the meantime, try this: go to RUN / services.msc & check if these two services are running & set to auto:

sluinotify and slsvc

They tie into each other, so if one is running and the other not-- you can't start the stopped one until you stop the running one.... vice-versa you may not be able to stop the running one first... It may take one/two restarts. Quickest thing is just to log off/on instead OR hold down shift key while clicking restart.

There are some essential services that just can't be set to Manual(instead of Auto)-- that's an example.

If that doesn't do it, try to think of any other services you may have trimmed down, if any.

G'luck.
