Solved: Computer powers up on its own
Last night I took my computer off the employer-provided router because I think it's malfunctioning. I then directly connected the computer to the cable modem. Since this change in connection, I can put my computer in Sleep mode, but maybe a minute later, it automatically powers up again on its own. What is happening? And what can I do to make it stop? Thanks for any ideas....

Look both in Device Manager and BIOS. Somewhere you will see a setting that allows that device to bring the computer out of sleep mode.

That worked; I discovered it was the network adaptor. Makes sense! Thanks.

LOL. Well, at least you didn't have the problem a lot of people had when XP came out of the machine typing by itself because voice recognition was on.

Since this is happening you are NOT turning OFF the machine just putting it sleep.

The machine can still be roused, even from an "off" state, by schedule or by bus activity, if it is set that way.

I turn my machine off at night and it turns on in the AM by itself.
