Windows Explorer stops working
Hi all, I have Vista Basic Home on my HP Compaq Presario C500. It came pre-installed. I am the only person on this laptop. I am having trouble with Windows Explorer stopping right in the middle of most anything I'm doing. Internet activity, puter runs fine, offline while I'm trying to move files is when it usually stops. I am trying to get all of my photos into DVD size files so that I can burn them. Cant do that without Windows Explorer stopping. I read in help files that I could re-install only the OS and not lose any of my programs and the such, I thought cool. When I attempt to do so, I am rejected for security reasons. I am the only one on the puter, so by default one user has to be admin. Please help me. I know only enough to be dangerous under the hood of this thing.
My objective is:
To remove all of my photos to a safe place, thus freeing up my harddrive.
If I do the complete wipeout, then I have to go through the trouble with MS Office registration.
My previous laptop had to be wiped out several times, thus causing me to re-register with MS Office ( you only have several times to do this, as you all are aware of I know, just making my case)
When I first tried to burn a DVD of my photos with the Roxio software that was prebundled with the puter I never got to complete the project because of the Windows Explorer crashing. Meanwhile I have no where else to transfer my photos but into a laptop that holds them just fine, but I cant do the burn thing.
Thank you so much for any help. BTW from some of the posts that I've read, your people respond kindly and don't look down their nose at us newbies. Jesus is Lord

Thank you for going to the trouble of answering me, but it is "windows explorer" that is crashing for no reason, not internet explorer, I can surf anywhere anytime with no problems. Thanks again for trying my friend. I re-installed my OS and just ate a lot of my work that was slated to be burnt to DVD before my $%^%^%$$%^ Vista Longhorn (mmm...maybe it means Vista BS)

Hey, it just says that Windows Explorer has stopped working, .......and after 2 or 3 minutes it restarts it and you are back at the desktop, it seems to be only when I am attempting to move files to a folder that I'm preparing for a burn.

I don't know how old this update is (second one), but it might be worth a try...
http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/cin...e_updates.html

Disconnect from the net...disable UCA before trying to move the .jpeg files. Right click on the program and choose "Run As Administrator". See if Windows Explorer still crashes, or lets you copy and burn your pics.
