HP has been known to load a lot of cr*p on their PC's (although the last one I looked at looked pretty clean-suprised the (heck) out of me!). I have heard that Vista performs better with 2GB of RAM but other than that your hardware specs look fine to me.

What all is running? (Check for background processes, too.)

Hp does load alot of crap on there computers most of the time, just uninstall it I say. But yea, I run with only 1 Gig and I can tell you need to for the best output of Vista. My HP is fine I think i have a 4.2 Vista Rating, but make sure you have a good Video Card.

For help with startup stuff see "Fast Fix 3" in this PC World magazine article: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13...n/article.html

I haven't looked at the applications or lists mentioned; just happened to read the article yesterday.

Your complaint seems to have to do with downloading and buffering speeds.

This is almost always a "bandwidth" issue.

Go here and tell lus what download and upload speeds you get and what kind of connection you have -- cable, dsl, dialup?

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Based on your previous post I also see that you have parental controls enabled -- this could well slow down some page loading.

Whether 430 kbs is adequate depends on what type of streaming media you are trying to view. It is fine for all audio only streams -- but not necessarily so for all hi quality video streams. If the computer is networked -- any other user can also compromise the bandwidth available.

By the way "wininit.exe" is not something you want to try to remove.

If parental controls are enabled when you encounter page loading or streaming issues -- try turning them off.

Keep in mind also that some streaming issues are not at your end or your ISPs at all -- but on the server end which may be overloaded. This can happen no matter how good your bandwidth is.

And for what it's worth I use only the free version of AVG. On my Vista computer I uninstalled the Symantec software that came with it and things ran much better afterwards.

Post another HijackThis scanlog.

Do you have Winamp or Realplayer? Can you install one or both of those and tell me if it happens on streaming media in those players? Chose media whose normal streaming bandwidth is less than 128 mbps

In Windows Media player -- make sure it is configured for your connection speed: in Tools > Options > Performance, either have it set for "detect connection speed" or set it manually at the low end of DSL/Cable

Well I don't know what the problem with the AV streaming might be, assuming you are not choosing streams whose bandwidth is above what you would normally need to download smoothly.

As for the Symantec files, assuming you have removed it through Programs and Features in the Control Panel and nothing further shows there, I think we can remove the remaining services following the directions below.

1 > Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

2 > There you will see a shortcut for the Command Prompt; to make access more convenient you can right click and select "Pin to Start Menu" if that is not already done.

3 > Right Click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator"; now you should have the command prompt window open.

4 > At the prompt type and enter each bold line below:

sc delete ccEvtMgr
sc delete ccSetMgr
sc delete CLTNetCnService
sc delete comHost
sc delete ISPwdSvc
sc delete SymAppCore

damn there sure were a lot of those -- are you sure you removed all Symantec programs through Programs and Features in the Control Panel??

>> anyway, after rebooting those services should no longer load and should not appear in a HijackThis scanlog.

If you get any error messages, make sure you have typed the names correctly, and let me know the exact message.

Obviously you will have Symantec folders remaining in the Programs directory, and those can be manually deleted.

>> Also, check and fix this entry in HijackThis >> O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1E8A6170-7264-4D0F-BEAE-D42A53123C75} - c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\coShared\Browser\1.5\NppBho.dll

>> Post another HijackThis scanlog after all this is done and you have rebooted.
