Formatting Drive For Windows Vista
Ok, here's the problem I have. I have a HD which isnt being recognized in windows xp. I'm trying to put this hd into a computer getting a clean install of Vista. When I run the Vista installation I get an error saying the drive doesnt meet the criteria. I don't have a floppy drive on the computer im doing the install on nor on the computer im typing this on. My question comes down to this... Is there a way i can make a USB flash drive a start-up disk and run fdisk or something to get this drive capable of having vista be installed on it? Thanks in advance!

I don't have a direct answer, but do have an alternate suggestion.

See if you can find a utility on the HD manufacturer's web site that will format for you. For example, if it's a Western Digital drive you would start here: http://support.wdc.com/download/

I inherited a HD from my neighbor that was so corrupted it couldn't be accessed by XP. I found Western Digital software that nicely cleaned up the errors, formatted and partitioned.
