How do I make a smaller than 80gb c: partition in vista?
Hi,

just bought an dell xps 1330 with 200gb harddrive. I want to allocate, say, 30gb for vista and program files, then make a new partition for data. I realise that vista now can shrink partitions, and approximates some of the functionality of partition magic etc on xp. The problem is that vista wont let me shrink the c: to less than 80gb. The whole reason for shrinking is then to image the drive once every week or so for imaging, so I really just want the programs etc on the c: partition, and 80gb is too big.

Can anyone help me to fix this? I've looked around and cant see that 3rd party partitioning apps are currently supporting vista.

Thanks,

Toby.

Acronis Disk Director 10 works with Vista and will do what you want, but use carefully.

As I remember .. I was able to get down to 50gig ???
I wouldn't go smaller than that for Vista ... It needs a lot more than XP.

Acronis Disc Director is OK .. Throw PM away.
What are you going to Image C: with ... Acronis True Image ??

For the best results from shrinking, try defragging the drive with an offline defragger that will move all the files away from the partition boundary.
