Windows is shutting down to prevent damage to my computer. with a countdown at the bottom saving discs for crash data, and physical memory.

this has happened various times. First time was while listening to itunes and opening a word document. Another time was when I was updating Java. Then after that it didn't like starting anymore. It would sometimes freeze while in the startup process.

The wonderful yet disgusting BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH DEStRUCTION AND MAYHAM fell in love with us. Every time I started the computer it would come up. The odd thing is it would come up with different reasons for shutting down in this way. Would always have the countdown on the bottom obviously haha.

I finally got the computer to stay on long enough to get a hijackthis log to help figure out what is going on.

I don't see anything unusual in the scanlog, so let's have a gander at the minidump files that should be created >>

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

>> You may also want to try starting in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking support and see if the blue screens still occur. Use your F8 boot menu to access those options.

It also wouldn't hurt to make sure that your hard drive is free from defects.

Start the command prompt using "Run as admininstrator" and then type chkdsk /r/f you'll have to reboot your system and be prepared for the system to run for several hours.
