System contstantly shutting down
I recently started using a new PC, I have installed all the proper security programs, but I have had a persistent problem with the PC constantly restarting after a period of time.

Whenever it happens, a Blue Screen of Death appears momentarily and then the computer restarts, when I log back in after the restart, I get this dialog box telling me what went wrong:



I have scanned my PC for viruses and spyware and none can be found, so I'm struggling to work out the problem and I hope someone on here can help.

I have, but nothing happens, it searches for a second and then the dialog bog disappears.

switch off the autoreboot option

now the bluescreen should stay on the screen
see if you have a file name displayed
it may tell us if a driver issue
video driver, network driver, sound driver etc etv

These are the STOP errors it gives me:

0x0000008E (0xC000005, 0x81c8cce9, 0x95D07CFD, 0X000000)

By the way, if I decide to change to XP, does my PC have the correct XP drivers?

Its a Compaq SR5249.

A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

I haven't changed from anything, my PC came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium, I have only installed BitDefender Antivirus Plus 10 and Spy Sweeper, both of which are compatible with Vista.

you will need to download all the drivers from the manufactures site or possibly for the PC you have from that manufacturers site.

did this problem start after you installed those programs - try uninstalling and see if problem stops

you may need to run a program like
www.belarc.com
and identify all the devices for a driver
not sure about the motherboard drivers though
