Run sysdm.cpl and go to Advanced > Startup and Recovery and remove any check for "automatically restart"

Under "write debugging information" make sure "Small" memory dump is selected.

If there are BLUE screen stop messages to be read, you will now see them and the minidumps can be found in the c:\windows\minidump folder.

If the computer is just restarting without any STOP it may be overheating -- but usually CPUs which are overheating just shut down.

If you get Blue screens, upload the minidumps here following these directions:

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

>> Also, run mdsched.exe and read the additional info. Run the extended tests to test the ram.

Start talking to your system vendor about warranty options, you may need to excercise them.

>> Finally you might want to take the option of using "system restore" to go back to before this problem began. This should rule out all but hardware problems. These can be reversed if you like.

In Vista System Restore can be found by searching for those words.

Well clearly now it's a known and documented problem.

I'm not sure what the BIOS update will do, but my suspicion is that there is some faulty programing related to the motherboard's CPU heat sensors.

Good luck with the update and let us know how it goes.

Upload the recent minidumps as advised earlier. The problem may or may not be the same.

Also there are some VERY recent Vista updates which address some blue screen issues on some configuratins. Have you installed all the latest?
