Vista start menu lag...
When i click on the start orb the start menu comes up quick..
but then when i move my mouse around the menu it lags with the highlighting.

I can move from the bottom to the top quick and after i stop i'll still see the highlight creeping up.

I know it can't just be the Glass/Aero style.. because it does the same thing when its disabled...

how can i fix this?!

Start Menu Slowness
What are your running processes without anything open?
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and look for the processes taking up the most memory. I am pretty sure there is a simple background process causing this.

You need to right click on taskbar

Properties>Start menu>Customize>

*Uncheck "Highlight Newly installed programs" and uncheck "Open submenus when I pause over them with the mouse pointer"

Then you should be good to go!

Well, if you're talking about the highlighting on the items to the right, that is common, a lot of computers have this issue. If you are having problems with the actual programs, then that's another story.

Try running task manager and seeing if the CPU usage spikes when you highlight these items. What is your CPU usage at idle? If it's above 10%, go to the processes tab and click on CPU to sort the list and see which task is at the top.

I also see that you are running on a slightly outdated video card. Try updating your video card drivers and making sure all settings are set appropriately. You may want to try to install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer since it appears that you have a dual-core processor. You may download that here:

I think the lag is because when i highlight items on the right side there's a little picture that shows up at the top right of what i'm highlighting (for example, when i highlight "computer" it shows a little computer)

Also.. the video card i have (the nvidia) turned out to be incompatible with Vista. Despite the drivers that were made and supposed to work for it with vista... oh well.
So i've been using my onboard video card. I'm buying a new card next month when the prices go down (cause of the new line coming out!)

That may be the problem. Try updating the drivers for your integrated and set the shared memory to it's maximum in the BIOS (Usually opened by tapping F2 or ESC) right when you turn on your computer, refer to your manual for more info.
