Another Vista Removal Question
Hey I know this has been asked a hundred time in a hundred different ways. But sadly i'm not super tech savvy. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with vista pre-installed. All i want too do is get this off my computer and replace it with windows xp. I'm not too woried about which version of xp ( probably home since i can afford it ) i just want the resource hog to disapear. Please I know my question is probably overly vague but can anyone help me or ask me for more specifics in a way that i can understand and reply too?

Contact Dell and see if they have a XP that can be install on this piece of hardware.

Otherwise, I would suggest that you learn to use Vista and find out that it is NOT a hog as some think.

Go to Dell's support website. Put in your service tag and see if they have drivers for all your hardware for Windows XP. If not you may be SOL!

And I know that you guys are pros when it comes to this stuff and i maybe wrong about Vista being a huge resource hog but all i know is that i want it gone. Please help.

Right, make sure that in the bios for the boot sequence its set to boot from CD/DVD first, place the windows XP cd in your cd/dvd driver and restart your machine, you should get a black screen saying "Press any key to boot from cd.." as it says.. press any key. Then simply follow the instructions from there.

Also. I know you guys are pros but there is more that i have too do than just that isn't there. Because i have heard of people having to wipe their hard drives and having to do so in a certain manner to completely get rid of all traces of vista so xp can be placed on their computers.

You should create recovery discs for vista first if you haven't done so already.
I believe you also need to change in the BIOS the hard drive type from sata to auto-detect.
When you start your computer, watch the screen to say "Press F_ key to enter set-up"
F2 maybe?
