Vista cannot surf web after a short time
Hey guys,
I really your professional help now. Recently, I have justed upgrade my OS from Windows XP SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate and everything seemed to work very well. However, there is one serious problem with my network connection that I cannot figure out.
In fact, I can only access to the Internet for the first few mintues after turning on the laptop (maximum 30 minutes) and then I cannot connect to the Internet no more. The Network Connection is still turned on. I can ping every single websites and even to my own router, I can log in Yahoo! Messenger but I cannot surf the web.
Please help me figuring out the problem, or I will have to reinstall the Windows XP again.

Many thanks in advance.

On the page that displays an Internet Explorer error message, did you click the Diagnose Connection Problems link?

Do you have any VPN software installed?
A problem I've run into a couple times lately has to do with VPN and something called stateful firewall. In our case we use Cisco VPN client, and opening that app and unchecking 'Stateful firewall' on the Options menu takes care of it. There is also a registry change that accomplishes the same thing, but it's for XP, and I don't remember it off the top of my head. Let me know and I can see if I can find it again.
As a test, try going to http://www.paypal.com and then https://www.paypal.com and see if the 2nd one lets you in (note the S at the end of http).

EDIT: Found it anyway. If you don't have a VPN client installed, check this....
Open Registry editor by clicking Start, then Run, then regedt32 and click OK. Vista may be different, I'm pretty sure the Run command is on the programs list now
Navigate to "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsdatant"
The entry in 'vsdatant' to look at is "Start". If the value is set to 2, then the stateful firewall is on. Change it to 3 to turn it off.
If you don't have a vsdatant entry, then the problem most likely is elsewhere. I've read that ZoneAlarm and Bullguard use similar underlying technology, so it sounds like it's not just limited to Cisco VPN Client.

I have a similar problem. I can get on line, surf for a short while 15 to 30 min, and then I'm offline until I restart and go through the same routine.
I'm running CA Internet Security Suite.

I followed your instructions above but in Vista the choices seem different. regedit takes you to: HKEY Current Config; System; Current Control Set; Services; then choice of TSDDD or VGASAVE
End of string for TSDDD, VGA Save ends in Device0. Either choice lists: Name (default)--Type REG_SZ ---Data (value not set)

So I'm stumped, what else can I tell you to help you zero in on this? ---Thanks
