VolumeControlVista.exe has stopped working
I just reformatted my laptop with the included Operating System Disc for Gateway Laptops. I keep getting the message "VolumeControlVista[1].exe has stopped working", with the number changing every time i restart my computer. It keeps popping up over and over again and it's annoying and i can get nothing done. I have tried reinstalling the Sigmatel audio driver and every time i do, this is what happens. What is wrong with my computer! Help! It's a Gateway M6 model with Windows Vista 32x

I had the same problem with a Gateway M-1650 laptop not long after reinstalling a corrupted Vista partition in an XP dual-boot configuration. Via MSCONFIG, I had disabled Agere Modem Call Progress and 3 Windows Media Center Services: Receiver, Scheduler, & Service Launcher since this is a tech support laptop. To fix the problem, I uninstalled the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC via Device Manager, then re-enabled the disabled Services. Since restarting and reinstalling the SigmaTel, the errors have stopped. Hope this helps.
