Uninstall Without Log
Well, I have Total Video Converter, and Total Video Player that comes with it. I tried to uninstall it, but it removed the "programs" folder from my "all programs" menu. I didn't have Accessories Folder. Thus, I did a system restore. Now the program is back on my start menu, the programs folder was there separately. I hid that which coincidentally hid my Accessories Folder. I can't remove the program from add/remove programs because well, the uninstall log isn't there. All I want is for a normal start menu (it modified admin account, and who knows what other accounts) and the program to be removed from my computer.

I had similar issues with the uninstall of Nero it began consuming stuff, as it had a virus in the uninstall Package.
Is there support for your software that caused the problem?
However if you uninstalled it and then did a system restore it should still be uninstalled, and you can delete all reladted files and registry entries. But since you do not know what else it may have done you might want to back your files up and reinstal your OS. and dont use that any more.
Which is what i do when i cannot determine all the adverse affects a piece of software may have caused. There is a lot of Contracting going on with companies today, and alot of that goes to Asia. There has been an influx of virus laiden hardware/software coming from there, so choose your publishers wisely

Hm,

Thanks for the help. I have already backed up all my important files. However, I cannot reinstall the operating system because it came with my laptop and Acer doesn't give out cds or back up, really. What I have in the box is a "Upgrade Your Windows Vista Experience" CD which says I am not allowed to insert/run software until I buy an upgrade license.

What? did your system come with XP originally?
If so,did you get the free upgrade from buying the system closer to the release date?
If not and it came with vista then call your PC manufacturer and get your copy, call them and complain, if you paid for support they should issue you a install disk, at no or low cost. do not bother with the upgrade disc you have. if they will not send you a CD see if they wilkl send you a hard drive with the original Image on it.

No, it came with Vista. I think the Vista disc is to upgrade to a different version, such as Business or Professional. Is there any way I can get a free disc?

Microsoft will send you one but they cost, Your PC supplier should be able to provide you with the disc, aso call them and tell them, you did pay for a support plan i am assuming, so they are obligated to assist you and send you any media that came with your system.

I'm not certain. I got this as a gift, for $400 dollars. I upgraded the ram to 1GB, though I doubt I have support. How much does it cost from Microsoft?

Bummer.
more than it does at costco!
Call the company anyways, and tell them your problem, and that you need the install disc from them as it did not ship with the PC, it may only cost you a whooping $10. if not the support plan for your PC for inclusion of software will still be less then the OS and then they HAVE to send it to you. so call them and see what options they offer. do not buy cheep ones on line, ( they are priated)

Okay, I'll see what happens. Thanks. If all else fails, I still have Ubuntu, right?

i guess, they all have their issues, and Worms, Bots, and most viruses are multi platform. they are just less noticable as the MAC OS and Linux OS are more stable, they still get infected it is just far less noticable. And they ALL have issues, some lesss than others, but still. SO long as you like Linux, and you can use all your stuff on it for windows with the Wine app then cool Ubuntu is pretty cool as far as linux goes, but it is still somewhat techie. So as long as you are comfortable with Linux yes you still have Ubuntu.
You should be able to add a support plan to your PC even if it did not come with one. If you are still in your fist 90 days, you can actually get a system replcement i believe.
