Bob, not sure where you're at but I'm curious-are there any brick & mortar stores anywhere that still sell PC's with XP 'off the shelf'?

that's what I meant; sorry about saying 'vendors'......friday, brain checked out about 3 hours ago.....the only manufacturer I know of is dell; which other ones do you know of?

I don't mind dell for business purposes, but I'm not that fond of them for home usage due to problems with customer service in the past. So when some people come to me for pc help outside of work (or the forums), I generally like to give good advice, and the only place I know that is selling xp now is dell......if you know of a way to get xp shipped on an hp, I'd love to know how.

And if not hp, which manufacturers do you recommend?

not trying to morph it into anything, just trying to get info to help clients on my end.

thanks,

v

Generally when wanting information on a vendor's products, a good place to start is with the vendor.

For specifics on computers stores in your area that may or may not provide XP, you would need to check with them as well.

thanks noyb, we aren't looking for refurb, though.....got it bookmarked in case someone needs it, though.....

what I was looking for was an answer to bob's statement regarding "many major manufacturers are supplying laptops with XP."

Specifically, which manufacturers outside of dell does he know of that are shipping xp these days. Always better to buy from the manufacturer than ebay, as you can get the extended warranty that way.

not that I ever get those, but it's still a nice option to turn down.

See......as stated earlier, there are major manufacturers (not stores like Circuit City), where you can still get XP. Hope that if finally put to rest. Much of the information was provided earlier in this thread.

And I just hope that if you search around Houston, you can find local people that can provide it as well. Always nice to deal person to person when possible.

gave them a call, and they said they just introduced that line, and it's the ONLY line they carry, and it was an executive decision due to all the sales being lost by people that wanted xp, not vista....pretty decent rig, for the price, IMO.....now I know where to send people.....

thanks again for the help, noyb......dunno how you found it, as they aren't even built yet, but you got the hookup, big fella.

with those quantifiers, not entirely sure I WANT to get to abilene......

we were about halfway there last week for our anniversary, hit Fredricksburg....nice little place.....

but if I get the chance to hit abilene (and we've got branches up there, so you never know), I'll make sure to bring a camera.

thanks again, noyb.....

On my test computer when the SP1 RTM is released I plan to restore from an image I took before any of the SP1 betas were installed then install SP1. This is the only way to ensure a clean install of the RTM with no beta remnants in the system.
It uninstalls without a problem. Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features to uninstall it. I've already done it before on my D400 laptop.

In regards to lack of support it seems like there's plenty here at Microsoft's forums: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/...1992&SiteID=17

Your solution to install SP1 RTM is rather extreme. I've had no problems with my D400 laptop after uninstalling SP1 RC.
