Question Solved: XP And Vista Dual Boot issue
I have 2 hard rives in the same tower. on has xp pro and the other vista biz. they both were running fine until i had issues with my XP so i reinstalled xp but now when i boot i don't have the option to boot to Vista. i can access the vista drive via XP but i cant boot to it anymore.

(Boot.ini i presume)

how can i fix this with out having to reinstall Vista again?

thanks!

Don't worry about dual booting. Install Vista as your only OS and then put Windows XP in a VM with VirtualPC.

You erased the Vista boot manager. Vista does not use boot.ini at all. You will not be able to dual boot nor ever boot into Vista again. You could try a repair with the Vista DVD but I cannot vouch that it will work.

It's better to wipe and just have Vista as the primary OS. Any needs you have out of Windows XP can be easily taken care of through a VM.

I'm running WINXP Pro and Vista Prem. on the same hard drive. I don't know about two different hard drives but maybe this will help. I use this and it works great if both operating systems are on the same drive. Maybe it will help you too.

Install VistaBootPro into XP and run it from there to repair your Vista boot. Or-->

Boot from the Vista DVD and run Startup Repair. If you get back into Vista, use one of these to add XP to your Vista boot manager if it is not there:

VistabootPro or EasyBCD

Hope it works. That VistaBootPRO looks like good software. Thanks, Elvandil, for pointing it out.

posting from my Vista OS.

here is how i did it step by step just in case some one else may need to do this:

1. download vistabootpro

2. in vista pro got to "manage OS Entries" tab on top
make sure your Vista shows on that list (if not just add it) with "add new OS entry"

3. in vistabootpro, go to system bootloader tab on top
chose "vista bootloader-all drives-force bootloader instal" then chose install bootloader tab at the bottom and that is it!

any questions please PM me.

Thanks guys!!
